Inclusion: Children Disabilities

Context

Matter was engaged to design and facilitate a global, multi-stakeholder virtual workshop to support the development of a toolkit and guidance on effective Communication for Development (C4D) approaches. The initiative aimed to advance the inclusion and empowerment of children and adolescents with disabilities. The workshop brought together over 50 participants, from international organizations, organizations of persons with disabilities, academia, and NGOs, building on existing knowledge and practices to inform a shared global effort.

Approach

  • Activation of a pre-work onboarding journey to prepare participants, build a shared knowledge base, and maximize engagement during the sessions.
  • Integration of expert inputs, case studies, and best practices to inform discussions and ground the work in evidence and real-world applications.
  • Use of the socio-ecological model as a guiding framework to explore challenges and opportunities across different system levels.
  • Facilitation of interactive and participatory sessions to gather insights, foster dialogue among stakeholders, and co-develop key components of the toolkit.

Results

  • Co-creation of a global toolkit to address stigma and discrimination against children with disabilities.
  • Development of a roadmap for the dissemination and implementation of a toolkit.
  • Strengthened alignment and shared understanding of effective C4D approaches among stakeholders.
  • Generation of actionable recommendations to support inclusive programming at both global and local levels.
