IT Strategy Workshop

Context

The IT Department of a large scientific organization aimed to collaboratively define its strategy, focusing on significant departmental achievements for the future. The workshop’s goal was to shape a strategic vision and identify key priorities for the department, aligning its efforts with broader organizational needs and preparing for future challenges, including evolving technological demands and upcoming major projects.

Approach

Matter co-designed and facilitated the IT Strategy Workshop to guide the department through a collaborative process of defining its strategic objectives. The event involved a series of interactive sessions that engaged participants in co-creation activities, including developing a structured table of contents for the department’s strategy, conducting visioning exercises to capture individual perspectives and align them with collective goals, identifying key questions that each strategic chapter should address, and holding group discussions on governance, project lifecycle, and risk management.

Results

The workshop culminated in the creation of a draft departmental strategy with clearly defined strategic objectives and guiding principles. Key decisions were made around departmental goals, governance structures, and future project roadmaps. A comprehensive executive summary documented the key decisions and action points, ensuring that all participants were aligned on the strategic direction for the IT Department’s evolution through 2025.
